We are just back from Yorkshire Coast and NY Moors, and it’s heavily advertised, we intended looking it up on our return home. It seems there’s been investment into some provision for MH’s, certainly in Scarbro. We parked up under the castle on Marine Drive, lots of MH’s parked up here. Climbing our way up to the castle, we noticed a newly built  water and CDP waste station, possibly with toilets as well, we didn’t investigate. It certainly looked as though one or two MH’s were overnighting, but having paid the appropriate fee for parking. Conversely, Whitby Abbey Car Park used to allow MH’s overnight (for a fee), but that has been withdrawn, for bad behaviour.

Could be a good scheme for those new to visiting Yorkshire Coast, particularly if into cycling and with a degree of fitness (some of the coastal towns and villages are challenging walks/rides). There are plenty of very varied accommodation options, either with or without a tourer. Certainly lots to see and do, great places to eat. It will be busy though, it is already in the Summer months.

Photo of North Bay, Scarbro’ from the castle. You can see Marine Drive running all the way around under the castle with parking spaces, which vary in depth and ability to overhang in places. (This is similar in South Bay Area as well, once you are past the little tower.) Parking is free during the Winter months, but from end of March onwards charges apply, and not that cheap. We paid £5.50 for three hours. If you expand the photo, you can see the purpose built MH service point in the bottom left corner, with a white van and MH just outside. Buses run all around from North and South Bay, and there’s plenty to do and see in both areas, as well as the walks up to the Castle. There were a good few MHs and campers parked up.

Abbey car park at Whitby is good for MH parking, but it’s a fair old climb up and down the steps, and as far as I am aware nothing suitable to get down for mobility scooters.
