Route from Plymouth Ferry terminal

The Tamar Bridge Tolls are £2 for the car plus £2 for the caravan but only payable to leave Cornwall. We let you in free of charge.

I'm a bit confuddled by the A3064 reference. Are you approaching from the Tavistock direction on the A386? If so, follow the signage for Liskeard A38 and you will do most of the journey on the Parkway dual carriageway leading you onto the Bridge.

Like TW I couldn't quite work out your directions RedKite but you'll find much improved roads as you head south from Saltash but you'll also fine the A386 is quite busy around Derriford Hospital etc.

The Tamar Bridge has been extended, you might find a difference if you haven't been for a while. Hope you have a good time!

Ah, I’ve just re-read the thread title. I guess RK is landing at Plymouth on a Brittany Ferry and going to Looe.

Again, follow the signs for Liskeard A38 and you will probably be led to the Parkway. I know of no roads not suitable for towing. It’s a major route through the City but can be very busy at peak times.

Thanks for the info TW and brue, sorry I see looking at my road map and google maps on leaving Continental Ferry Terminal onto A364 then A386 then onto A3064 just checking that this route suitable for towing or do we just the follow A386 towards the A38 then onto the Tamar Bridge and into Cornwall.  Many thanks again.

Thanks TW we have crossed posts. All sorted now. We arrive at 2pm on a Sunday so hope it will be quieter and we return on a nightime sailing back to France.

I think you'll find the route to Cornwall signposted from the ferry area RK but the A386 wil be the main route up to the A38.

RK, I used to live in Plymouth and worked beside the Millbay BF terminal but a lot of roads have altered since I left so I’m reluctant to suggest which way to go. However, there’s no need to worry as the major routes out of the City are well signed from the ferryport - A38 west to Saltash, Liskeard and the rest of Cornwall; A38 east towards Exeter; A386 north towards the hospital and Tavistock. You’ll be fine👍🏻

Hi RK, Had to smile at the request as it struck a chord with me. In the same way that people 'count sheep' as an aid to sleep , I count "stoppers"!

I visualise crossing the Tamar Bridge, on the way to get the ferry, and then count the number of stoppers-roundabouts, junctions, traffic lights etc-I usually get as far as comparing two routes before I drop off.

Anyway, always reluctant to recommend routes as we are all different, but looking on Google the route you mention is exactly the same time and distance, 39 minutes and 20.7 mls, as the one that I use-TL out of port and then via Devonport meeting up with the A3064 at Camels Head.

There are a number of reasons I use this, its usually quieter than the 'main' route, especially when leaving Millbay as you will be, and when going to catch the ferry I can fill up in Devonport if needs be.

As mentioned tolls are rising but we have a Tag so never look at the price signs.
