Question about sites for kayaking

Hiya,

We have a double kayak which we would like to take with us, to use on caravan trips.

My question is can anyone recommend sites or CLs where there is kayaking nearby?

Launching from the site would be ideal, but that might be a bit much to hope for.

Kind regards,

Fiona

How about one on your doorstep? Cromford Canal, there’s a lovely CL called Splash Farm, not far away at Lea Bridge. If you can carry it pretty easily, you could walk around 200 metres with kayak, otherwise there is a waterside car park at Cromford, around half a mile away. Nice Cafe at the start, it’s navigable for around a couple of miles, then it’s turn round and paddle back. Lovely scenery.

Another nice paddling treat is Chesterfield Canal, although you might have to climb in and out to bypass locks safely at certain points. I think there’s a CL at Ranskill🤔

Edit…you might need to get a license for canal launching from Canal &Rivers Trust to use inland waterways by the way👍

Although expensive to stay at Baltic Wharf the site gives virtually direct and easy  access to Bristol's water front, the whole area is popular with kayak and rowing enthusiasts.

If you use the search facility on UKCampsite.co.uk there is a filter for finding waterside campsites. I didn’t count them as there looked to be several hundred - all marked on their map and all over the UK
