Possible Belvoir Castle Site

Hope this link works. Article about the CAMC setting up a new site in Lincs, near to Belvoir Castle, which is in Leicestershire. The site is very close to the Grantham Canal.

I haven't looked up what has gone to SKDC planning dept yet.

Interesting🙂 We know the area well, use a lovely CL not far away. It is indeed right next to the Grantham Canal, which is great for walking and cycling, and perhaps a mile further on to Belvior Castle itself. Not far from A1 either, so well connected, and some nice places to visit not far away.

I have a vague recollection of staying at the Dirty Duck some years ago to attend a wedding at Belvoir Castle. Nice area. Planning application can be found >here<

Is this the proposed, adjacent to the Mucky Duck Pub?

Looks like it Micky. If I recall correctly, pub had a camp site in grounds already, I recall cycling past it. That does look quite a big site that’s proposed, must be looking at purchasing adjacent field. Belvior is further along entrance road, then turn right in Woolsthorpe, and up the hill. I think Belvior Castle runs it’s own campsite, possibly to compliment all events that go off there. Have to say, it’s a cracking location for Club, lots to do and see.

Personally I don’t think it is a good location. Like too many sites it is in the back of beyond. No public transport. I also believe it will spoil a pleasant quiet area, but no doubt the pub and the Duke of Rutland, who owns Belvoir, will be delighted. Can’t see it would be able to be ready for at least five years,  by which time the world will be a different place.

We could debate all day really, as so many of us tour in different ways, but as someone who loves rural locations, has an outfit that we don’t need to leave on site, happy to walk and cycle, love all the history, and nature sites around, have been to events at Belvior, and actually live not that far away, it’s a good addition for us. Rather here than closer to Grantham, which hasn’t been on our list of places to visit whenever we have been in area. It has to be a very nice, very interesting city location to get us to leave our outfit on site, say York or Bristol. Ferry Meadows is down the A1 for those keener on being closer to buses, etc….

Huge car parks that take MHs at Belvior, Belton House, Burghley House, Easton Walled Gardens, so it’s a good location, even with a big MH.
