Pitching Instructions

Has the club abandoned pitching guidelines? I've always been told quite firmly to reverse the van onto a pitch with the nearside corner next to the peg.

I'm currently at Malvern Hills and people are going freestyle with people seemingly pitching in any direction they want.  I wish I'd been told this when I arrived as I would have ignored what I thought was a rule in favour of a better view.

It doesn't cause congestion if this is the process used at that particular site..

then, everyone would leave their outfit, in turn, walk the site, return, collect outfit and drive directly to chosen pitch, no touring round and round the site unnecessarily.

by the time the third (or so) unit has arrived, the front van is being driven away to its pitch...and so on.

Of course, systems like this are more popular in some other 'far flung' places but it works, and keeps the number of units on the 'racetrack' to a minimum....just one, heading for its pitch.

it only need sufficient space for three units tops...the benefit is less unnecessary traffic on site.

On many CCC sites I have found it a pointless waste of time. Particularly so as I would just pick the first suitable pitch. Not as if I need to circle the entire site nor await a guide. A site plan would be useful and particularly one with a north arrow

I prefer to get the afternoon / evening sun and generally will do a little research beforehand using an online site map / google earth or maps / whatever, and will preselect a number of pitches that suit my requirements. This means i can quickly go to certain areas of the site to see if my preferred pitches are available.

Failing that my car and my phone have a compass facility so south is easily found. The Truma app also has a sun alignment tool that can be useful,

Me too if I am on site this is why I face north as a choice. We usually are out just after 9 am when sun is on the door side.  These days we are usually back sometime after 3 and, if it is particularly hot  and sunny will park the car on the door side and sit on the non door side unless there is shade available. Facing North in hot sunny weather means that the Sun is directed to the windowless rear of the caravan at its highest point

I can think of sites where it wouldnt work any other way and they dont t open the barrier until one has settled on a pitch.

I can think of many UK sites where it would not work and particularly with  a 1 pm arrival time. If you waited for me to walk a larger site you would loose the will to live.

Barsar

Don't you mean "offside" to the peg? That's the way it is on most C&MC sites, unless you go "nose in" when it would be the nearside to the peg.

I guess you’ll not be renewing then.

You guess wrong. They have been, however, second choice due to  a latter arrival time, showers that I cannot use and, in the case of popular sites faffing around before getting to pitch

And here's me thinking this was the only thing I needed to think about when pitching up. Seems there's more to this caravanning than meets the eye. I'm off to select my pitch for a weekend I've booked at Broadway in May next year.
