Just had an email from the Club saying they are extending the ANPR experiment, originally at Clachan, to three further campsites during the course of the year. Southland on the IOW, Bourton on the Water and Lady Margaret's Park. See here

The fast check-in system does not currently integrate with bookings made on the day of arrival. So if you arrive late you risk not being able to enter the campsite."

2 things stand out:-

1. This new check in system isn't integrated properly if it doesn't pick up bookings made on the day.

2..What happens if you decide, say, to curtail the journey due to weather or mechanical issues or illness etc and need "a port in the storm", appropriate for the current weather? Are they really going to deny a member a vacant pitch? What happened to touring and in particular those Motorhomers who like to make the most of their day out and then find a site? Bit prejudicial if you ask me.

Lutz's point is well made. We've encountered similar problems in Germany on a couple of occasions.

The non functioning non-integrated bit is a puzzle if this is going to move forward in a positive customer friendly way.

I believe Southlands have finally relaxed the arrival times to help those with differently timed ferry bookings, I wonder how that will be set up?

I wondered if Bourton (Notgrove) might be staffed from MinM, it’s an easy 20 minutes drive to site. Don’t know the other two sites mentioned.

We used to just roll up at Bourton, it was never busy.

It may be easy in a M/H but a lot more awkward in a caravan coming from the South west.

We were on Bourton at the end of the season last year and there were very few other units on, many less than we have seen in the past around the same time.

I wonder what would happen at the likes of Clachan if say 3 M/Hs who had not booked a pitch turned up at the same time, and then  couple of caravans who had a booking turned up! Not a lot of room on the road past the site to stack the vehicles!!

I noticed in the FAQ's that Southlands arrival time is midday, unlike a lot of sites. As to relaxed arrival times I don't know if that is borne out by some of last years reviews which, if I recall correctly,  suggested people were refused entry and told to go off and park up until the correct time!

I read on here somewhere that early arrivals due to ferry timings were being allowed to wait in the approach area and I think allowed on as spaces became available? (My recall might be wrong.)Anyway it's all at the experiment stage so no doubt there will be updates.
