Kessingland White House Beach - beware the buses!

Those of you who have used the excellent Kessingland White House Beach CC site will know that the final piece of road (20mph speed limit) before you turn past the pub and enter the site is rather narrow, with terraced houses with garden walls on either side. When I approached on Thursday, I cautiously continued onto this part of the road, aware that there could be a problem if a wide vehicle (white van person?) is coming towards you. To my consternation, a large single decker bus (yellow and blue livery) suddenly appeared, as I was entering the narrowest part of the road. All I could do was pull into the side as far as I could without scraping the caravan on the garden wall, as it was clear the bus driver was not interested in reversing, having suddenly appeared from around the corner. He stopped when he was alongside my outfit, and I had to ease forward, hoping and praying that we would not scrape. Fortunately we got past each other without touching vehicles or the walls.

I was surprised, as on previous visits I was not aware that there were any bus services that went as far as Kessingland Beach. Once I had registered and set up my caravan, I returned to the site office at KWHB to get my barrier card, and asked about buses. The warden lent me a timetable- the terminus for this service is opposite the pub car park, and sets out at 27 minutes and 57 minutes past the hour- which would explain why I encountered a bus just before 12.30pm when arriving.

I am posting this information to advise that if possible it is best to try to time your arrival to avoid an encounter with a bus on this narrow stretch of approach road!Surprised
