I have heard today that the National Trust caravan site at Ilam Hall in the Peak District is set to close at the end of the year. Those of you who used this site when it was part of the club network or have used it since will know what an absolutely idyllic gem this site is. We have used this site as our go to site for over 15 years, our children have grown up here, enjoying the freedom, adventure and stunning surroundings that this site gives us. Please, please, please if you will, write to the National Trust and ask them to keep this site open. All sorts of people - walkers, day trippers, backpackers and caravanners should be able to continue to enjoy this magical place.

Do you know the reasons for the closure? As clearly what they are will affect any chance of keeping it open.

Just returned  from a 5 day trip. Idyllic. No mention of any changes.

Don't know as yet, just got a message from a friend staying up there who's been talking to the warden. Will investigate next week.

They don't go for silly rules there. Easy going, CC could learn a lot from them. I do get your joke!!!

I understand from the warden that they want  to extend the car park, something I think they have wanted to do for sometime. If you wish to object please write to Mr Mark Morley, the man in charge of Ilam Hall at Home Farm, Ilam, DE6 2AZ or to the National Trust head office.

Ca see their reasoning. The car park is usually full by 11am ach day. At the end of the  day its a decision for the Nat Trust. Even though we use the site frequently I don't  think I have the right to interfere in a Nat Trust decision. Hopefully Castleton will be fully open next year as an alternative. Never found Carsington that nice a site.

The site at ILam  Hall is less than half the size it once was ,and was then run for the NT by this club .the carpark that used to be in front of the Hall is now where over half the site once was.   that before now closing was run by volunteers,,

Also the access from the Ashbourne area can also have access problems of large outfits

My theory why the NT has closed the site is that  there has been problems with parking on the access road to the Hall and Ilam. Village for years

I think the site will now be extra parking and yellow no parking lines appear in the area of the village and access road
