Grass pitches dividing gap

There has been a number of threads about Grass divides on hardstanding piches, pitch invaders etc.

As I have only been on a grass pitch once on a CC site, I wondered how do you know where the limitations of your pitch are? the peg is there to tell you where to put your van, and as we know the awning and car could go either side depending on which way round you pitch.  How do grass pitches manage to keep the safety margin, is there outer markers? I only ask this because its the grass pitches that I have seen that people seem to cut through, but if there was a clear marked area between pitches then this should alleviate it. What do others think.
