ok, should have said in my opinion. does not change the fact that public wifi (paid for or free) is not secure and you should never shop online or do banking or even use social media. mobile data is far more secure, faster, and more versatile.

I am quite happy to use social media with my tablet on site wifi. If I were to give you full access to my social media data, including passwords, you might find a false date of birth and my first name and could, with passwords, lock me out. Not a problem to me at all.

As I said many folk use such 'free wifi' whether they should or not

But security has no bearing on whether the club should cease charging separately for its Wi-fi.

apart from encouraging more vulnerable people to compromise their personal data.

well at least you are aware of the dangers and don't disclose true details.

You don’t seriously believe that the club removing its charge would do that, surely?😄

Adults need to take responsibility for their own actions and, if they’re as naive as you suggest, they'll not be swayed by CAMC's actions one way or the other.

We are off topic and probably best left there but I will say that folk make more problems for themselves on facebook than on wifi. I have seen the results of more than one ex-partner contacting the new partners friends and relatives using false IDs and stirring trouble.

I completely agree, One.👍🏻

Cabbie, I really don’t think the standard of Wi-fi offered by CAMC will attract anyone. I’m on site now using tethered 4G because site Wi-fi just keeps giving up. It really isn’t up to the job, in my opinion, and more than one device will just lead to further overload of the system. You’ll find several threads debating this same subject.

I did speak to the wardens on one site about this. The answer was that they relied on the local BT lines and the site was in a poor area for this. The site details do rate the signal so you can check before you go or log on to this forum to see what you get.
