Dover Port or stay in France????

Hi, I'm sure this has already been covered, if so can you point me to the thread!!

I need a site close to Dover port for an overnight stay before a crossing.

Am deciding whether to drive ( from York ) to Dover and cross then overnight in France before the drive south or to break the journey in Dover and plough on once over the channel!!

Any advice from those who have done either would be gratefully received
