We’re delighted to announce the Club has purchased Dornafield Touring Park.

The site, to be called Dornafield Club Campsite is situated in a quiet valley, surrounded by beautiful countryside and perfectly placed for exploring Torquay, Totnes, Newton Abbot and Dartmoor.

On-site there are over 100 all-weather fully serviced pitches, excellent facilities and lots of entertainment for all to enjoy - including table tennis, pool, darts, two adventure playgrounds, a dog walk and an all-weather tennis court!

One of the reasons all types of van users like public transport in places like Torbay is the lack of parking at peak times and the expense of parking. There are often queues at the Hillhead bus stops in both directions because bus passes can be used to get to all sorts of places and day tickets are available for families etc. Battling through the holiday traffic can be hard work. This is why I made a comment about lack of transport at Dornafield, I think this applies to Modbury too?

I presume seasonal pitches will be on offer and they offer good alternatives to people who don't live too far away.

I have noticed that the facilities on offer at some of the Club's bigger sites are getting hard to maintain, cafe and bar opening hours reduced, shops closing, lack of staff etc. I do hope the club will be able to maintain what it offers.

It is the queues of traffic that puts us off using our vehicle to go out if public transportation is available close by, why drive in heavy traffic if someone else can take the straincool

This Dornafield - is it near Torquay ?  I must confess I have lived in different parts of Devon and Cornwall for 48 years and have only been to Torquay once, so I can’t help with any inside information about the caravan site. I wasn’t too keen on Torquay on the day we did go there.   Has it improved?

Did we need another site in the SW, when there is a distinct lack of sites in other parts of the country

I noticed that the Polstead Camping and Caravanning Club Site franchise site was recently up for sale. That would have been an opportunity to have a site where there are very few other Club sites?

Perhaps the Club could build a wide access road and then charge a toll to use it. That would be a cash grab. Tongue and cheek firmly together.

Another point as the shop on sites are normally at the  site managers own costs and responsibilities,I understand this club has now made some managers to question ,if the service to members that they give is worth it with the hoops they now need to jump through

As with some no longer even have calor gas cylinders to exchange

Also according to what I have been told there has been quite a change to the way sites are now covered by staff with contracts not necessarily covering the full season by the same managers

But of course if it happens we'll know where they got the idea from...

Brue, do the prices change (I mean come down😉) when the service is reduced?

Seacroft did reduce pitch prices as did Hillhead when pools could not be used,  ,but Seacroft at other times prices did not reduce
