Please accept my apologies for raising a topic that I had resolved never to comment again, but I was so surprised with what I witnessed last week at Troutbeck Head, that I could not believe what was happening. Due to a bout of Montezumas that forced me to spend more time at the van than usual, It became obvious that all the claims of a minority of dog owners being irresponsible was far from accurate.
There were many dogs to be seen wandering around with owners, but only a few passed our van regularly and some never although we were parked near the dog walk.
It became very clear that some responsible owners took the dog for a walk at a brisk pace and each time the dog tried to stop, a quick tug on the lead prevented any accidental deposits. Others were taken for a walk at the dog’s pace and surprise surprise the dog had an accident on the way to the doggy bin. The owners never actually made it to the walk at any time during our stay one owner brought his two dogs to the empty pitch opposite our van each breakfast time both depositing their contents, only to have the same thing happen in the evenings. When approached he asked me if I could tell his dogs that there was a specified place to conduct their business, as they did not know.
Well over 50% of those that passed the van already had a bag full of poo and just put it in the bin without actually using the walk at all.
Finally the guy, who arrived the day before we left, with his nice car and very nice new van, therefore surprised me the most. With two dogs parked within 20 yds of the dog walk, arose the following morning and just tied them to the stand pipe, and let them relieve themselves on pitch while he went back into the van.
It must be said that most picked up, but not all.
This is our first visit to CC site outside school holidays, so most were experienced campers that should have known better.
