Cost of sites has gone mad

For about 13/14 years we have stayed at North Yorkshire Moors Site.  Its one of our favourite sites on the network and perfect for our family.

Ive just been looking for the end of May as its half term for our kids and was almost floored when i saw the price.

This is a site which is lovely but has no toilet block. 2 Adults, 3 Children £36.70 per night!!!! When we first stayed there it was £18 i believe.

I then checked scarborough west ayton which we also like and stayed there last year - £60.20 per night

We thought the price we paid at easter at Gwern y Bwlch was bad enough but this is now a complete joke.

We have stayed in a lovely small site only 500 yards up the road, with the best views in whitby and a toilet and its only £18-20 per night.

Do the caravan club actually want anyone to keep with them.  We've been members for 15 years and i am pretty close to leaving now as its just unsustainable.

Do they want families or are they actually just want older couples with dogs to visit their sites and create an exclusive adult only and dog club?

Im aware the cost of electric etc is rising but not surely by that much!!

Anyone else think the same or am i just going mad

I thought we were comparing costs of Club sites with comparable alternatives. In my book a CL or non facility site is not comparable. By shopping around you could always find value for money sites with facilities just the same as the Club's and sometimes even better. It is just lately the choice seems to have widened.

As we always say it’s always about location.  It’s never really about price. I am staying at the club site at Gwern y Bwlch due to its location.  My time there will be spent at he Max Loop so it’s very convenient

We have had this conversation  before and I for one who doesn't  regard  children as  "life style choice" to be compared with dogs or cats  and still find your view highly  offensive . Personally as I rarely  use these sitesI care not whether the club charges for dogs or not but am offended  by the mind set that thinks charges for human beings acceptable  while animals go free.

You are super sensitive whenever I mention children and dogs AD.🙂

Having a child for most people is a choice, hopefully carefully considered. Owning a dog (or other pet) is for most people a choice, again hopefully carefully considered. Both will have an impact upon how life progresses, what might and might not be done, enjoyed, etc… at any given point. Neither is good or bad as far as I am concerned, merely a choice. I cannot recall saying at any point that I think dogs should go free while children have to pay. Some places charge for both, some places let both in free.

I happen to think parents get a rough deal when it comes to things like holidays, and think adventurous holidays should be the right of every child, as much a part of growing up and learning as anything taught in a classroom. Likewise, I think owning and caring for another living creature can likewise enrich a child and adults.

Finally, a definition of choice…. Collins English version.

Actually, that's quite wrong. We have found little difficulty in finding cottages and hotels which welcome dogs, many free of charge. I think hospitality providers have long been aware of what a lucrative market it is. In the next two weeks we will be in 2 cottages both booked direct with the owners (in one the dogs go free  on the second they are charging £15 but only because it is a bank holiday week). Later this year we have 2 hotel bookings, in both dogs are free of charge. smile🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺smile

Since we have wandered a little from club prices to a general attitude  toward  price in ones  choice it has occurred  to me it has no  influence  at all. At the risk of being disregarded  because my experience  is entirely  in Mainland Europe   travelling  out of high season  we never  have to consider it as the most we will be paying is around € 20 with the exception of a particular  site where we willingly pay €27. That is a special  place to us owned by a friend who has one fixed  price through her season with no greedy increase at peak times..

Using the same disregard-I truly love Europe but in the total comfort of a Hotel with AirCon & waiting service. We have 1 thing in common👍🏻

Sorry this is off topic but I have to disagree with your statement that an adventurous holiday is the right of every child. If you follow your own logic in paragraph two it is the responsibility of the parents to provide this when they make their choice to have a child.

Holidays becoming a basic human right, really.

I have to agree with the OP, prices have gone mad.

We rarely use CAMC sites now and those we do use are inevitably non facility sites.

I don't mind a site/CL in the middle of nowhere, if it's the right price or if we are only staying for one night or want to chill for a couple of days.

I refuse to pay £30+ just to park up for a night. In those circumstances a nice quiet site is preferable to a busy site that is convenient for public transport or a nearby pub.

Busy school holidays and weekends we can avoid, if we want to avoid families (we do) dogs on the other hand are not so easy to avoid.

I think like a few others that while I like dogs and have had dogs myself. I don't necessarily want to be surrounded by them. Depending on the site you can quite easily be outnumbered by outfits with dogs.

A well behaved dog is not the problem, the problem only arises if you have an inconsiderate owner who does not notice or care if their dog/dogs are disturbing other campers.

While there are a growing number of Adult only sites, for those who wish to avoid busy family times, I think I'm correct in saying there are few sites that are dog free.
