Club prices getting silly

I'm not one who normally complains about site fees. It's quite simple - you either accept them, or you don't! We are both fortunate in that we are retired with good pensions and don't have to count the 'pennies' too much.  However, I have just attempted to book two nights at Broadway as a stop-over on our way to Devon, next June. For two people on a normal hardstanding pitch on 5 June (not a peak holiday period), we are being asked to pay £39.40 and for the following night, £35.10 - that's over £74 for two nights.  Compare that with 14 nights at the C&CC site at Dartmouth - which is lovely and just as good, if not better than most CAMC sites - for £311.

I think this is ridiculous and will be looking elsewhere.

That said, I am not averse to paying premium prices if it seems justified - we will be paying something like £37pn at Sandringham, this Christmas - but I would expect that at that time of year due to increased demand - but not in what I see as a 'low/mid season' period.

I don't use Club sites very often and if this is the way things are going, together with the threat of introducing deposits I can't see me using them at all in the future.

Rant over - but I think this is a step too far.

The name changes that happened with a few of the Club’s Sites could be misleading to a few. For example Bourton, formerly Notgrove, is a good way from Bourton in the Water. Marazion, formerly Threeways, is another. Not walking distance for many.

My second son, who owns and runs successful businesses in the tourist hospitality sector, has just said that if the demand is still high at Broadway and Sandringnham with the prices the OP is quoting, then the Club has clearly slipped up and is not charging enough.

Anyone wishing to stay at Salisbury and not doing sufficient research, could be disappointed. CAMC Salisbury Hillside, on a hillside 9 miles from the cathedral. Salisbury C&CC on the hillside just below old Sarum and a fairly easy 2 mile walk to the cathedral.

Now that's a representative sample...a bit like the single Hymer owner you met who had damp issues....

CAMC 'Prices' is a recurring theme on this forum, where many a comment suggests they are high and rising, but the bottom line will be whether folk are still happy to pay them for what they get.

after spending this year in the uk and 12 weeks so far (with another three trips before we go to Spain in early January, it's clear to us that (personally) CLs represent the best 'value' and often location, with some commercials certainly 'offering more' than typical Club fare..

we still check out club sites when touring but have to compare against other options, in which case they are getting expensive for what they offer (for us).

it's down to each to make their own mind up but 'price threads' do seem to be very popular.

CLs as most should know were in the past and some still .are very good value, as posted by others on here , but the trend as on most sites either both clubs and more commercial sites it seems is members want a lot more facilities but no fee increases,

I think both of my posts you refer to are not just me as others have also commented on this website about the fall in the quality of over the channel build quality,LVs

The same with site costs as you say ,some say this clubs  site costs are high? It seems mostly from older members ,who it seems have yet to realise the costs of most things in this country are going up faster than pensions,

Yet the younger it seems families are still filling up sites at peak times and weekends

CCC Salisbury (on Hudson Field) is a regular haunt for us, our pals like it....but the site itself isn't in the top league by any means....the pitches (apart from a few at the very top end) are on the prevailing slope, lots on grass, showers not the most up to date...

however, as Steve says, it's a flat east walk to town, it's on the local cycle route, Old Sarum is on the doorstep, local pub across the way, and it's cheap with various pitching options and oldie discount

....AND there is a huge car park next door so that any keen arrivals can stop there mid morning and visit the town, and then move to the site later...
