Cirencester Park access road

We were out walking near Cirencester today so thought we'd divert to wander past the club site to see how things looked.

Well, not sure if this is good news or bad, but the access road has been diverted..

So - good news - for anyone with a pothole aversion - it's been resurfaced and the tarmac is now billiard table smooth (apart from the inevitable speed humps!)

Not such good news - instead of a long straight road with plenty of wide stretches to allow for units to pass it is now very narrow and winding, with large boulders each side at the entrance and just a couple of small lay bys for passing, so heaven help you if you meet another unit coming in or out.

I can't see any practical alternative to the "off by 12 and no arrivals before 1" arrangement. We'll just have to wait and see - well, not us obviously! wink

Yes I am - I always do anyway. But the shower block is open with those that want to use it allocated their own cubicle. There are only 8 vans in lockdown here.

Do those on site clean them as well or the site staff?

I suspect that the rocks might be temporary to discourage visitors. Time will tell

If it helps, here is a plan of the access road I drew for another forum.

Thanks Arto, very helpful.

What's the point of those large rocks? If they are to stop people going on the 'grass' then surly a small kerb would be better than those outfit destroyers? (unless they are made of foam and painted to look like rocks)

It's obvious really....it's to deter people from using the site....simpleswink

Not very familiar with the access at this site but would it not be possible to have a one way system using the old road?

The old road now seems to fall within the college curtilage. So I would think even on foot you would have to stay on the new road.

That was my first thought too, PD. But I think Steve is correct in that the old road now leads directly into the college grounds and it certainly appeared to be permanently blocked off at the end nearest the site. I guess it's OK for the small number on site at the moment but this is a 200+ pitch site, often fully booked, and I can foresee problems at peak times!  surprised

If those rocks stay there, even getting past a car would be difficult, except at the passing bay. When the parents pick up their offspring from tennis lessons there is often a procession of cars. That should prove interesting.☹️

The old road is now blocked off at both ends with earth banks. Halfway down the new road there is a double gate that gives access to the college car park. If the routine remains the same as before, coaches enter the campus from further along the Stroud Road, deposit or collect pupils, then exit via the access road. The coach drivers are just going to love that S-bend by the zebra crossing, if indeed they can get round it at all with those ludicrous rocks in the way.

This morning we had to go out early with the van and a large rock had been deliberately rolled over onto the road. Easy to tip over from the upright position but impossible for two of us to lift it up to roll it back! I had to get out of the van to guide it through - and it was a tight squeeze. It is all getting beyond a joke!

Is this a completely new road or has it used the line of the old road. I don't recognise the field view on the right. Have the outbuildings on the right of the road in been demolished
