(Moved from the Social Room)
Have just returned from a mid week break to the club site adjoining Chatsworth House and have to say what a wonderful experience that was. I will of course submit a proper survey report in due course but thought that some might wish to read my initial musings.
The site itself must be one of the Jewels in the club Crown. Well laid out in what was once a walled garden, it has of neccessity to make the best use of space, so some pitches are a bit small, but that should not put you off because my van which is approaching 22 feet fitted in happily. The site is flat and pitches tend to be separated by small hedges and vegitation.
The wardens are helpful and pleasant, without going over the top. They are clearly assisted in their duties at this time of the year by several conga lines of ducks. Each female of which is closely followed by between 2 and 8 ducklings!
The House itself is welcoming and friendly and a sheer must for all who like that sort of thing, and I am one who does! An almost total absence of " No Entry! " Do Not" "**** Prohibited" signs also helps the atmosphere Restuarants are very good!
The surrounding Countryside and towns such as Bakewell and Buxton are simply superb, the local beers a must for those of us that appreciate fine ales!
All in all an excellant short stay! But that is my one moan! It was impossible to get a weekend slot and I am told that there are none lefy this year. Indeed I had to book 5 months ago to get my Monday to Thursday slot. I was advised that all weekends were taken by mid December last year. Hardly an acceptable situation.
I have never been in favour of the way many French sites will only allow you to book sites in multiples of 7 nights, and I am wondering if this practice might help. So what if the club retained a proportion of its weekend slots for sale only as part of of a longer booking? Might that deter some of these selfish members that book every weekend and block sites for longer stays?
