Charging electric vehicles on club pitches

Whilst a club site I observed a fellow caravaner charging his vehicle via the external socket of his caravan, is this procedure conducive with the guidance given on site leaflets "that the use of electricity should be considered to help minimise our effect on the environment", additional should extra charges be made for carrying out such procedure.

Well it's coming, and fast, so in my opinion the CMC need to be addressing the issues raised by others here. Maybe install payable charging points in the car parks at the entrance to sites. Make it against the rules to charge a car from the pitch electric - quite easy for others to notice that a car is being charged - with a request to leave the site if these rules are broken. Otherwise all members will be paying for some others, either by higher charges or installing electric meters.

In mid 2017 we replaced our euro 5 Honda CRV for a new euro 6 Ford Kuga, in mid 2020 we will be changing to a PHEV.

We use our solar panels and only use electric for the fridge and microwave everything else is of the 12v system, so in theory I use less electric than most.

Next time you see an old diesel driving around site, just remember it is poisoning your grandchildren, we all have to change.

is it? as poisoning is illegal what are the police doing about it then?

DEBSC. Just a point, the electric supply to pitches is paid for by all users in their pitch fees. Avoiding exceeding the limit at present is the only criteria for anyone on a pitch, whether they're using equipment, heating an awning or charging a car. Some use very little electricity others probably run it to the limit. The club have already made a statement about this use. I presume if the club notices higher usage generally then changes or charges might be incurred but EV users will no doubt be pleased to see rapid chargers on site, presumably provided by a third party. At present only cars with a small EV battery set up can tow so their take up of extra electricity will be less than a full EV user. They will also have to adjust their usage of other van appliances to accommodate the charge.

When all full EVs can tow, (only Teslas can at present) then there will need to be some big upgrades on charging supplies on sites. But I suspect it's a long way off and it might be electric motorhomes that dominate the scene first?

Obviously bringing out the Policehorses as they won't be able to use their cars to chase down the culprits.

Expect some very slow arrests.smile

Lucky for me I don’t have any grandchildren. (My largest donation to saving the planet) I would worry more about all the nuclear power stations that are going to be required to “fuel” all this extra electric consumption! And just how an intelligent being can consider changing a car every two years as saving the planet beggars belief!

Surely no one really believes that the powers that be are going to miss all that fuel duty that is creamed off at the pumps. I can see each home having to have a separate electric car charge point that is on a totally different tariff. Enjoy the savings while it’s there. It won’t last, that’s an absolute certainty. yell

Charger turned off then?

And changing your car to a phev which has a battery which to manufacture is one of the most costly to the enviroment, also will be petrol driven causing more co2 into the atmosphere than any old or new diesel

Trust me MM, I have no maternal instincts whatsoever. And even less stress. Good with puppies and kittens though.......laughing
