Chapel Lane, Birmingham, Dog friendly places to go

I have just booked Chapel Lane, Birmingham. A bit apprehensive about it as we have a pooch!

Just wondered if anyone had been with their beloved pooch. Is there somewhere for morning/evening walkies.

Also is there some good places to visit nearby where we can get a reasonable walk, somewhere in the region of 1-3miles, to spend maybe an hour or 2?

We would like to visit the canal, so wondered if there was a good, but quiet spot to park easily and walk?

Any help and advice appreciated. We are going in September.
