Cayton Village

I know not all of you get the regular emails from the Club but I thought I would post a link to the refurbishment of Cayton Village near Scarborough. There are a couple of videos as well. See Link here. We enjoyed our stay there last year although we had some misgivings. However the upgrade looks to address most of those issues.

I imagine the opportunity to buy sites in the UK come along fairly infrequently. We have used both Bridlington and Cayton Village and from a location point of view prefer the latter. Scarborough is so much nicer than Bridlington and much larger. Another issue is that so many current Club sites are leased and as we know the Club won't invest members money unless they can be sure they will get a return on investment. I suspect the majority of Club owned sites have already has some investment.

Alan

I am not quite sure I understand the point you are making?

It matters not whether I am near to Bridlington or to Scarborough. I can visit both easily during my stay from either location

it matters not where a mh is pitched, each of these places is easily accessible from the other....amazingly, Ive just managed to get mine to Valencia from the UKwink

it may just be that a MHer might pitch at one of thise two sites for a couple of days and explore locally and then move to the other for another couple of days, rather than pitching at one for five days and doing more retracing of steps in a car.

i think David was just saying that, if choosing to only stay/visit one of the two, Scarborough was nicer than Bridlington in his opinion...

always good to have info...

The only problematical one now is visiting Bempton Cliffs. No bus service and they do not allow MH's the size of ours to park. Otherwise bus services are good from both Brid and Scarborough. In fact even when we visited with our caravan we preferred to use the bus and train to visit places along the coast.

I've not stopped at Cayton but I have been by it on the bus; it looked a bit busy and commercial to my eye, but you can never tell until you stay there.

Personally I am much happier at Bridlington. Many more options for the motor homer in my view by cycle, foot, bus or train (the sea front, Flamborough, Bridlington itself, the old town, model village, Sewerby village and hall, shops, coastal walks, etc.) I agree that Scarborough is a better place but that too is easily reached from Bridlington. Plus the "new" section of the Bridlington site is very much to my taste - spacious open and bright.

We will have to wait to see what Cayton Village is like once the refurbishment is finished. It is and will remain a large site which won't suit those who prefer less large sites. Having said that Bridlington can't be called a small site with 149 pitches! When speaking about sites we all rely on not only on our personal experiences but also our own capabilities. So whilst cycling and long walks might be able to be enjoyed by some for others those activities might be more restricted. Without doubt the Bridlington site is a much nicer site than the pre refurbishment Cayton VIllage but that may change when its finished and I suspect, putting to one side the relative size of the two sites, they will be very similar in quality and appearance. Our experience was that Cayton was a bit more convenient for our needs than Bridlington.

and of course an easy ride into Hull (City of Culture) ...pity about the RSPB withdrawing their affiliation with the club....Bempton Cliffs cafe will suffer.
