Caravan sites opening and safety measures feedback

It would be great to have feedback on the caravan sites and how the safety measures are working. We will be watching for the next two weeks to see how safe the sites are before we decide to start touring again.  Maybe a lot of people will put reviews on individual caravan sites.

I think SatNav times might be ok for driving just solo but unless the fancy caravanning models ( not tried ) do it a lot better my TomTom is usually at least an hour or more out at the start of a towing  journey and only becomes realistic in the last half hour or so.

Most inbuilt sat nav speeds cannot be altered ,so the journey time is calculated on a solo car travelling at road speeds

We also have a Garmin LV sat nav that is supposed to give more info ,but is not much better except it keeps to towing speed limits with its calculations, but it relies on regular updates,as it at times will show a speed limit for long term roadworks that have finshed

I started looking at ferry bookings this week and for the twice a week crossing I wanted there was only  1 in July, plenty August and very little  for September and cabin types sold out before my eyes. I realise they are running at 50% capacity but there seems a lot of pent up demand

A lot of caravan sites look quiet in August too. After this initial rush I'm wondering if holidays are a priority for many this year?

I cannot adjust my travel speed in our Tom Tom. On normal single carriageway roads not a problem as we will be going with the flow. If we have a fair bit of motorway I just add 20 minutes for every 100 motorway miles. Usually not far off

Both my inbuilt ones, XTrail and MH can be programmed for speeds on different types of road. I haven't  bothered changing those in the XTrail, so it estimates a lot longer than it actually takes solo. It of course becomes very accurate in the last few miles.

The one in the MH even knows our dimensions. Didn't stop it trying to take us under a 2.20 max height underpass in Avignon though.😂 We ignored it.😀

I do agree with you ,it does not matter what time a sat nav "calculates"an arrival time, ours notes holdups on a journey but will then recalculate if any  have cleared or others have occured

I think most modern sat nav's recalculate journey times as the journey progressess, but i believe the journey time is calculated using the max permissable speed on any single road, so if you are doing a journey on the motorway for most of the way your journey time will be calculated at 70 Mph, and being law abiding citizens we know we should only be doing 60 Mph max when towing a caravan  , so in fact any sat nav should calculate a shorter journey time than you would expect towing a caravan.

My sat nav allows you to enter the details of the caravan, but this only allows the sat nav to make decisions as to what route to take based on the size of the caravan.

Our Garmin also "sdvises"  What speed limit the road you are on when towing ie will advise 50mph if on a national speed limit single carriageway and also advise of certain other adverse road conditions when towing

I think that satnavs calculate on average times at that time of day and day of the week. Mine seems to.
