Caravan sites opening and safety measures feedback

It would be great to have feedback on the caravan sites and how the safety measures are working. We will be watching for the next two weeks to see how safe the sites are before we decide to start touring again.  Maybe a lot of people will put reviews on individual caravan sites.

This thread is specifically and solely for members currently visiting sites to offer useful feedback.

Thank you.

We stayed on two separate CMC sites on our way to the Eurotunnel earlier this week. One has no loo/shower facilities in “Normal” times and the other has Full facilities open, albeit restricted number access via the armband system. I thought the staff were managing the system extremely well and have clearly had some training on Covid19 hazards etc. I was on holiday and not in the habit of monitoring the activities of my fellow campers but one “incident” put a smile on my face. I was walking towards a facilities block on my way back from reception when a lady ran towards me in a state of some panic. She told me there was a mouse in the female loos and asked me if I would remove it. My immediate thought was ‘this is a windup’ but she was clearly serious. I pointed out to her that under even normal circumstances I’d be reluctant to enter the ladies loos and that the chances of catching the animal was minimal anyway.  I think I reassured her that the creature would be far more scared of her than the other way round and that if it did see her whist she was on the loo it’s unlikely it would tell anyone and so she eventually went inside. We need a bit of humour in these present times and she clearly doesn’t live in a 300 year old house like we do. I hope she was OK after all the excitement.

Sites visited:

Morn Hill, Winchester

Wood Farm, Charmouth

New Forest Centenary Park

No problems anywhere, all felt safe, used our own facilities. Would have liked to have seen sanitisers at service points though, just had to remember to wash your hands after use.

Back from our trip, visited 2 full on campsites and 1 CL.

1st campstie Moffat C&CC hand sanitisers at every water point, bins, CEP and at entrance to the toilets both male and female.

2nd site a CL had the same set up of hand sanitisers at the water points and CEP

3rd site Culzean castle C&CC site same set up as Moffat re sanitisers, smaller site and facilities block so they had a one way system going on.

At both the C&CC sites every other sink, shower and toilet was closed off. Never saw a queue at either site.

Site staff came round every couple of hours to sanitise the block/water points etc and a deep clean was done twice a day.

All felt quite safe although some folk forgot the one way system.

We were on a private site last weekend, Belmont Camping, Great Budworth, Cheshire.  They had handsanitisers everywhere, outside the toilet block, by the bins, by the various water taps and by the chemical disposal point.  I was surprised that the CAMC only have them outside the office and the toilets.

Good system in place however we only use our own facilities.  Warden got a bit upset with us when I returned the bands the day before we left as we had no use for them?

One CL increased its prices by £2 a night, but closed their toilet facilities which seemed a bit unfair considering you paid the extra.  Didn't bother us that the toilet were closed, but we objected to paying the extra especially as we had booked before it went up by the £2 per night.

Did you argue the point, Surfer? Surely the price agreed on booking should be the price you have to pay. I'd name and shame if were me.

TBH I could not be bothered with arguing and by that time it was only a few days before we were using the site however we will not be using that site again.  The bollard kept tripping although we had the load monitor in the caravan set to 10amp.  They tried to blame us, but we had no issue on the two sites previous and the next CL. Just to add there was the identical caravan and same year next to us and they also had issue.

It is a fairly nice convenient CL although it is a back garden converted to a CL.  The owner was nice enough but after I complained about the bollard tripping, he was no where to be seen.

JVB66 maybe saying the warden was upset was a bit strong, but he was annoyed.  We thought we were doing them a favour as we were leaving the next morning at 8am.

Overall on all the sites including one commercial we visited between 5th July and 26th July we were impressed with the way things were handled and have no complaints in that area.  Pity some pubs serving food did not follow suit and take the customer's well being into account!.

We have been to two CMC sites since the lockdown was eased.

Henley & Buxton, both times I tried to ring to book in and pay via the phone but at Henley was told my call would not be answered or returned if there were people waiting to go into reception, at Buxton I called en-route and left a message but got no call back then when we arrived we waited for 40 minutes but again had to go into the reception to book in

This is not what has been advertised by the club and is not a nice experience for someone like me who is very nervous to be inside and having to touch anything like door handles, credit card machine

At Henley they had a brilliant system for the rubber arm banks with Milton solution to ensure they were always sterile.  When I asked at Buxton about cleaning them when they had been left out on the hook I got told it was my responsibility to keep them clean?  We saw several people going into the ladies without using the hand sanitizer.

We are going to a private site this weekend so will be keen to see how their systems change
