Caravan sites opening and safety measures feedback

It would be great to have feedback on the caravan sites and how the safety measures are working. We will be watching for the next two weeks to see how safe the sites are before we decide to start touring again.  Maybe a lot of people will put reviews on individual caravan sites.

This thread is specifically and solely for members currently visiting sites to offer useful feedback.

Please keep your posts on the topic of "caravan sites opening and safety measures on sites" only.

Thank you.

This has gone off topic.

I would really like to know how the safety measures are working on the sites before we decide on our first visit to a site. I especially would like to hear from anyone staying on Ferry Meadows site.

No idea how this system is working but I hope somebody is sanitising the rubber bands

I would not be using the showers personally. If I did though I would have no concern about sanitising of the bands. I would take them into the washroom and was both the band and my hands thoroughly in soap and water.

If I may cut through this discussion about sat navs, here is our experience.

We made our, now rarer, visit to a Club site yesterday. With all the doom and gloom forecasts of chaos on the roads, we set off half an hour earlier than normal.

The roads were, in fact, very quiet and it stayed dry all the way - the caravan actually stayed clean! We pulled into a lay-by 15 minutes from the site and had a coffee. Several caravans passed us while there.

Set off again and arrived bang on 9am - our pre-arranged time - to be greated by a group of smiling, happy wardens. There were already a few caravans on site. We were handed an envelope with a gate pass, local information and Covid procedures. We went to our pre-allocated pitch, having been told to go back to reception the next day to pay.

The main difference to ‘normal’ is that the toilet blocks and other facilities are restricted in capacity. To go in the toilet block you take a wrist band (in milton, in a bowl) and replace it when you come out. No band, no entry.

Other than that, all seems normal. There seemed to be a steady flow of arrivals until mid afternoon and the wardens said it had all gone well. We weren’t on site much during the day (I went for a pre-booked haircit - what a relief!) but didn’t notice any problems.

Sorry to disappoint all the nay-sayers, but it all looks good for a nice holiday. Even the weather is playing ball.

Good to hear Ian, thanks for the update, and nice to know your first choice of site on the first day possible after lockdown was a club sitesmile

I started to read this thread but found it hard to follow with so many gaps in it.

What I did gather on here was a lot of criticism about people driving through the night and arriving at campsites in Cornwall very early in the morning . But by the amount of traffic we have had coming down here in the daytime today those people who drove overnight last night made the right decision.

And people have driven to Cornwall overnight every summer weekend since I was a boy. My grandfather did it. Some sites in Cornwall have overflow areas where tired arriving drivers can park up and wait. Some sites open their cafes and serve breakfast. And some sites today, being completely empty, were glad to welcome their first vsitors for many months, and simply guided them in with a smile as soon as they arrived.

Thanks for answering the point about the rubber bands, sounds like a good system. Is there sanitising gel at the taps, waste points, bins etc ?

  • Is the Caravan Club going to allocate all pitches on arrival from now on?
  • As the toilet blocks will not be open on the Welsh sites, will there be a reduction in the pitch fees?

From what has been said in various places on this website, the answers are "no" and "no".

This must be a wind-up story?  Why,, especially under the current circumstances, would anyone queue for public toilets when they have one of their own?  Or are they all in campervans without them
