Best route to take to Bude North Cornwall

In June we are travelling with our single axle caravan in company with our friends in their twin axle to Bude in North Cornwall for the first time.  We are undecided which would be the better way to go once we leave the M5.    We could leave at interchange 27 and travel the A361 onto the A39 via Barnstable then into Wooda caravan park near Bude.  The other option would be to leave the M5 at interchange 31 onto the A30 to Oakhampton, then travel along the A3072 to Bude and the caravan park.

Has anyone any experience and constructive advice which would be the better way to go.

In my opinion, the better roads are to be found by going from jcn 27 on the A361 to Barnstaple then the A39 to Bude. The Moorland roads around Okehampton tend to be narrower, twistier and hillier.

As a rule of thumb, the better roads have fewer digits in their identifying numbers and it’s true in this case.

We used the M5 Tiverton exit to Barnstaple route on our recent trip to a CL in Bude. There are roadworks towards Bideford at present but overall it's a good route with plenty of laybys if needed. Have a good trip. smile
