I'm going up to Northumbria in my tourer this summer.

Does anyone know any nice easy places to stop with a tourer on the A1 or A1(M) in the southbound direction?

Do you mean overnight or just stoping for a break?

From how far south? Wetherby Services is great for caravans with drive in and drive out. I've seen caravans and MHs at Washington services (when I walk over the nearby footbridge) but not sure what the parking is like.

It would be helpful if you gave your start point, and your get off point of the A1 if you could. As mentioned, is it for a driving break, or an overnight stop?

Depending on where you live, be aware there are still major roadworks, with contra flows on the A1 near Darrington, and at times this can add time travelling in both directions. We use a traffic app to check if it’s easier to go past using the M1, although I think there are newly commenced roadworks on the M1 as well.

Thanks all.

We are starting in Berwick and going all the way to Manchester.

Just looking for a toilet stop (not a stay over)

Thanks

All the motorway services on the M62 are accessible.

I use Google maps to follow my route and identify service stations/stops on the way. Then use street view to show the caravan parking area.

Wetherby Service station is probably the nicest stop off, and easiest with a caravan, and if you get a good run, will be around 3 hours from Berwick. It does get very busy though, so be aware. You cannot use Scotch Corner, caravans not allowed into there. On leaving Wetherby, you shouldn’t hit the bad roadworks further South, as you will take the M62 from around Ferrybridge.

Sorry, cannot help with services on M62, it’s not a route we use much.

Agree Wetherby services are the best setup for caravans, often with someone directing traffic there at weekends, shooing away goods vehicles from using the bays.  Other services to the north will mean you normally have to use the goods vehicle parking, as I don't remember any of them having special van parking.  There are roadworks with 50 mph limits between the A1/M1 split and the M62 junction at Leeds, but these generally flow OK.
