Vacation V Staycation Costs

We sadly accepted a while back that our hoped for trip abroad, in May/June, would not be happening and have booked on a two week rally in June-which we are very much looking forward to.

Over the last couple of days I have been looking at options for July/August and wondered how prices compare.

Normally we would go abroad at the times I mention so never look to see how over there compares with here.

Anyway, just looked at the price for a 10 day stay at sites of similar levels of quality and facilities, one in Cornwall and one in the Vendee.

The price for Cornwall, at Pentewan Sands, is £498.10.

The price for France at La Yole via the club and including a BF overnight crossing with cabin is £488.36

We don't go 'over there' to save money but its another example to show that considering 'going' as opposed to 'staying' need not cost a lot more.

At present I very definitely wouldn't want to be abroad unless  there was some pressing reason other than a holiday. The virus is running out of control in the EU and the sight of individuals heading for holidays to avoid lockdown indicates further problems. There are all sorts of interesting places in our own isles to explore and I just hope we'll be able to see them this year. It's a seize the day scenario for everyone (with plastic gloves on...laughing

It depends what you mean by abroad, if Australia/ New Zealand open their borders to vaccinated Brits then we would be off like a shot this Autumn. Australia has almost zero infections and very very few restrictions on the normal way of life.

I worry about that MA, I am like most folk-I have family in both Oz & NZ but I’d be concerned if I got there to be checked & found to be a carrier or worse a false positive only to be quarantined🤷🏻‍♂️😞. I’m giving the whole travel gig a swerve until it all makes sense in a tick box way👍🏻

But you might be a carrier for the rest of your life, if so is that your exploring life over for good?

Not at all-all the major vax makers are already brewing vax 2.0 to combat mutations, eventually they will stop them & it will be the same as winter flu. I will get where I want to be but not at risk to myself others or a costly trip to see the inside of a Southern Hemisphere Hotel-as beautiful as they may be😊

If you are referring to the "once in 50 year" floods in NSW then obviously they are having a bad time in certain areas. It won't however last long before getting back to normal,  It isn't a reason not to hope to go in 6 months time.

Out of control forest fires last year, unprecedented floods this year, they've certainly had it hard over the past 24 months.  But, I agree, not a reason to lose hope for future times.

We've got NZ pencilled in for 2023 to celebrate our joint 70's. If it turns out to be impossible that'll be bad luck, but it doesn't stop us looking forward to it, even from this distance! smile

I hope you get there. I have been and the flight I took via Los Angeles stepping off one plane onto another put me off that route and if I was to go again it would have to include a stopover.

We have been before and had a 2/3 day stop over each way. When we were planning to go last year, the suggestion by a few frequent travellers was "don't bother just do it in one hit" but only time will tell, which we choose.

It seems very unlikely that the travel company we were intending to book with for the NZ trip will have survived.
