Travelling to Spain

Honestly…that question has been asked and answered so many times. If you roll back and  scroll down a bit you will find all manner of useful suggestions about recommended routes  - all of them different of course.

And at the top of this page is a map of all the various vets  members have used - hundreds of them - and I am sure that will help you.

As eurortraveller says, the first "sticky" at the top of the Overseas Touring page gives a link to the location of some of the more popular vets in France.

We often use the vets in Neufchatel-en-Bray as they are within walking distance of Camping Sainte Claire. You can book a vets appointment on-line which is handy.

Another vets we use is at Igoville just east of Rouen and not far from a small MH aire at Pont de l'Arche.  The vets are next door to a large Super-U supermarket which makes for easy parking and also has pay at pump fuel.

With regard to overnight stops, I never book anything in advance as the weather can influence how far you can travel comfortably in a day.  I usually decide on a selection of overnight stops at lunchtime using the searchforsites app.

The route down the west of France to the Spanish border at Irun and the onto Burgos, Madrid and Marbella would be best. It is not a route I have used much but when I have I have used it, these are the sites visited when travelling the Spanish section.

In the small town of La Cabrera, Camping Pico de la Miel which is about 40 miles north of Madrid

It depends what route you take from Madrid, via Cordoba or via Grenada. I have only been via Granada to Cabopino. The sites I have used are Camping Arunjuez just south of Madrid and Camping Reina Isobel near Granada.

If this is to be a regular trip it is well worth visiting the local vet in Marbella and trying to get your 2 dogs Spanish pet passports. People on the campsite will probably be able to advise where to go. The cost is about 100 euros each as the rabies jab has to be administered again. (The chip remains the same) Spanish vets are more amenable than French ones. you can then go UK out to the EU at no cost and only need the tapeworm pill for your return (about 50euros). Every 3 years the rabies jab has to be administered in the EU - keep your UK vet well away from the pet Passport.
