Travelling to and in Portugal

We are travelling in our motorhome  through France and across the top of Spain to Portugal in 2 weeks time, whilst we have seen lots of advice on where to go we have seen nothing on places to avoid. Does any one have any bad experiences either bad roads or security issues.  We intend to use aires through France; have never been to Portugal and intend to spend amonth or more travelling as the mood takes us.
