Touring in Scandinavia

Hi all,

Our son lives in Finland and has married a Finnish lass, and we now have a grandson out there.  We are looking at taking a tour of about 6 weeks next year, touring Sweden, Norway, Denmark and of course Finland. To complicate things a bit more, we will be taking our Golden Retriever with us.

Has anyone done any touring in that part of the world, in particular Finland.  Getting to the other countries looks straightforward enough, but we are debating the various options for getting to and from Finland.  There are numerous ferry crossings, but I'm not sure about 36 hours on a boat with a dog!  The drive into Lapland around the top of the Gulf of Finland is a long way (lots of diesel needed), so I wouldn't want to do that both there and back, but it's OK in one direction.

Any tips or comments would be gratefully received.

regards

Mick
