Taking a dog abroad for the first time

Hello all

Can anyone give me any information on taking a dog abroad, what do we have to do from the beginning to the end of a holiday. What worries us is finding a vet before we go home!  We have never ventured caravanning abroad before, lack a bit of confidence, but are really dying to try this and, of course, the dog always comes caravanning with us.
