Stuck in a Cul-de-sac in Saarburg

The directions to the site in Saarburg indicated driving through the town centre but there was a half barrier across the road with various signs in red. Of course, I shouldn’t have gone down there BUT, other cars did, I don’t speak German, and who would dig up the middle of Saarburg for heaven’s sake?

100m on we realised the other cars were just visiting the multi-storey car park immediately after which the road was impassable and we were well and truly stuck! With some gentle encouragement, OH jumps out and acts as policeman whilst yours truly unhitches, manoeuvers 1600 kg van then spins it 360 degrees on its axis totally unassisted and without engaging mover – I think the locals were too bemused to help.

We left rapidly to avoid further embarrassment and ended up at a different site (Waldfreiden – attractive site, outstanding sanitation block). Not half as bad as breaking down next day, but it had its moments.

Has anybody else been stuck and had to unhitch?
