Just Back from 3 weeks in Provence. We stayed our first week at Castellane which was wonderful. We travelled down the Route Napoleon from Sisteron. I took the road D4085 From Barreme to Castellane which is what the Route planners recommend and managed fine ,but this is a high mountain pass with many hairpins and tight passes with other vehicles, I returned north via St Andre Les Alps on the D955/N202 to Barreme which is a much better wide flat road and much quieter, only six miles longer but quicker. Highly recommended.
