On our way to Italy (via Basel and Locarno) we always like to stay at the excellent municipal site in Obernai near Strasbourg. Generally we go from Calais via Reims but I believe it is just as quick to go through Belgium and avoid tolls. Can anybody recommend a route and a possible stop-over say 3 to 4 hours from Calais?
Alternatively, is there an attractive route through Germany to Lake Maggiore?
