Hi all

Just a little warning to people who take out breakdown cover, we've just had the pleasure of breaking down in France and having to suffer terrible customer service from the RAC.

We were stranded with a four year old in our motorhome which had lost it's gears. We rang the RAC thinking the phone call would be the easy part, however we were on hold for an hour and a half!! Obviously we were aware that the costs were mounitung up as we were ringing from a mobile abroad, but we were under the impression that the RAC would see us right as it was their delay.

When we returned we were pleasantly surprised that the bill was only £25.00 so we sent it off to the RAC with the evidence of the 1.5 hours on hold detailed on the bill.

We waited for 6 weeks for them to respond, they then told us that they wouldn't refund us the £25.00 as they provide a freephone number for calls from abroad but as we used a mobile it was our problem.  We had broken down!! Unfortunately not next to a phone box!!!

They also said the problems they had on that day were due to their service provider so nothing to do with them.

I cannot believe that they sell themselves as an emergency service and then when they don't respond they pass everything off as not their problem!

Sorry for the moan, just feel very let down
