Overnight stops on French Aires

Is it finally time to put an end to the myths about security problems when staying overnight on French Aires/services?  We used to do this every year (although not recenly) and have never heard of any problems. Nowadays many motorhome owners talk about the convenience of the French and German overnight stopping places near towns. Although we are caravanners, we have often seen these places and they would seem to have far more potential for security issues than would an isolated French Aire.  Any thoughts?
