Mont Blanc Tunnel - high motorhome charges

Hi Everyone Happy

I found this question buried at the end of the first time abroad sticky, and I thought it would be a bit lost:

We are going down to Florence mid March this year.

I have travelled in France with a motorhome but not to Italy and especially not this early in the year.

Could anyone advise me please on two questions:

We intend going through the Mont Blanc tunnel, having looked at the tariffs on the website, as we are 3.2mtrs height it looks like we are classed as heavy goods and will have to pay e152! A motorhome up to 3mts is e52.  Clearly we are a motorhome not heavy goods, do you thing we will be charged as such!

Second question, what will the road conditions be like ice/snow wise at this time of year. We will be sticking to main routes and mostly motorways.

If I can sneak in a third question, although we are not skiers we would like to visit a campsite in a ski area to experience the atmosphere and scenery, can anyone recommend anywhere near Chamoix or similar.

This is our first ever post to the CC Discussion Forum.

Philip

Also, Philip gave me a quick call this morning, so he already knows that the Mont Blanc tunnel will automatically charge him the higher price because his motorhome is over 3m high, and I have advised him to use a “manned” booth, as a human might lower the category?? Not sure if this advice is good??
