Long Vehicle Notice in Spain

We are heading to Spain in April and have just bought a new caravan which takes us 2' over the 12 metre limit.

How sticky are the Police about having a Long vehicle notice on the rear of the van and I have been told new rules state any notice displayed should be blank and not with lettering, doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Anyone had any experience of this in Spain?

Me too. Had one on ever since I bought the van, and I am only 0.5 meters over. Why risk paying a fine for the sake of buying a reflective plate and sticking it to the back of the van?

I have read on several forums that the police are pretty strict on  this with johnny foreigner. Good source of income.

it is a €100 spot fine for not displaying them, however, a nice Spanish policeman might just have a stick on pair in his car that will cost you €35, not been caught, but i know a man who has laughing

We bought and fitted last year for our first trip to Spain. But we did see quite a number of vehicles/caravans which should have had them, but didn’t.

They are not expensive so for me, it’s worth it to avoid any later hassle.

Brian and Stella were parked opposite us in Benicarlo this Winter with their huge motorhome, trailer and run around Fiat 500. I couldn't resist the photo ... sealed

I fitted my long vehicle marker boards for Spain in 2018 & although I haven't been back, they remain attached......... even throughout our 6 x week French trip in 2019.

A friend who is resident in Spain recently advised that he has seen many British registered vehicles (cars with & without caravans, motor-homes/campers stopped at roadsides with Spanish Police in attendance. He understood that there was a purge on cars NOT displaying a suitably sized GB sticker. I cannot provide any credence to this statement but as an earlier post advised, why risk a fine if one knows that marker boards are a legal requirement? Notwithstanding the fact that some are 'flouting' the law and getting away with it. Regards to all and happy camping.
