Long trips

I often read about people going on caravan / camper holidays to Spain, Italy, Austria and so on.

Does anyone mind if I ask - how do you afford / justify the cost of all the fuel for these really long journeys?

I'm not in any way criticising how people take their holidays - each to their own - but it must over 1000 miles each way to some of these.

We are contemplating going to the Vendee / Isle de Rey and even that seems like a lot of fuel (it's 250 miles just to the ferry port for us).

Just wondered what people think about this.....
