House Insurance when away for long trips abroad.

Hi there
Due to redundancy, my wife and I have taken early retirement and we are considering spending extended periods on the continent (France and Spain) in both our caravan and our holiday home in France. We are looking at doing this in two stages - a 90 day visit, then returning to the UK for a month, and then returning to France for a further 60 days. Then back to the UK for six months.

My current UK insurer has said they will insure our English home unoccupied for up to 90 days (with stringent conditions) but they only give us one bite of the cherry and after we return to the UK for a month they will not cover us when we return abroad for our second visit. However, our house and contents insurance is up for renewal soon and I shall be looking for another insurer to cover us.

There must be other folk in a similar situation to us, who winter on the continent and return. It's like having a foot in both camps. My question is: can anyone recommend an insurer who will let us take multiple breaks abroad and still give us cover at home?

I have visited the price comparison sites, but I’m getting fed up with trawling all the way through the quoted insurers PDF file small print only to read: “Maximum term property may be unoccupied is 30/60/90 (etc) days in any one period of insurance.”

Any information or advice would be gratefully received - thanks.
