Have you ever had an incident abroad?

When I was younger (about 6 or 7) we had one particular family holiday in France in my Granddad’s motorhome that was full of unfortunate incidents. These included the suitcase falling off the roof rack and my dad’s bag getting stolen. The holiday was finished off with me getting a bad case of chicken pox (I still remember the chemist exclaiming 'oh la la!' when she caught sight of me). Most of our holidays have been trouble free but this one holiday made me aware at a very early age of the importance of having good travel insurance when you need it! Have you ever had an incident on holiday where you have needed to seek assistance? What are your top tips on avoiding having to make an insurance claim? One of mine is always make sure the roof rack is secure!
