We are travelling to Austria from Salzburg to Bregenz in the summer, June.  is it possible to safely avoid Toll roads and S roads so we don't have to get a GoBox?  i can see there are smaller roads to cover that stretch but has anyone done them in a 4t 7.5m MH.  We obviously don't want to travel on tiny back roads. Or it is easier to get a GoBox at a service station and return as we exit Austria?

anyone have recent experience?

I have had past experience of using the Go Box and did not encounter any problems but this was before they introduced different rates for engine Euro standards. I have resigned myself to having to use it when travelling in Austria although you can minimise charges where alternative good routes exist. It is all in the planning and to a certain degree hope you are not forced to use the toll routes e.g. by bans on some roads for larger vehicles.

Salzburg is right on the border with Germany why not use German routes to get to Bregenz?

The route from Salzburg to Bregenz via Germany is shorter and quicker, too, than if you go through Austria.
