Not been to France for a couple of years , have sites switched to metered electric ( like a lot in UK )or is it still a flat charge.

Will be going in a week so was wondering whether we should operate just on gas and solar to save.

I have never seen any comments about metering in France. I know some sites charge extra for EHU. The situation in France re energy charging is I understand very different to here. As the French own their own energy supplies the French Government limited increases to to quite modest amounts whilst in the UK the double or trebled!

Most French sites have 6 amp as standard- on some it’s 10 amp, others upgradable at an extra charge

hacent come across any metering - suggest this is more likely in Spain where folk overwinter and have high consumption

take your ACSI discount book for up to date info.

I’ve never come across metered electricity on French campsites. On most sites electricity is optional, and on larger sites there is a choice of 3, 6 or 10 amp supply.

In Spain, metering is becoming increasingly common, the meters are installed in the hook up post and the bill paid when checking out.

Hope you have a great trip. 🙂

To date I have never come across metered electricity in France, although you are often given the option. It’s normally been about 4 / 5 €, which we pay. Supply’s do vary, often only 6 amps, occasionally 10 amps and rarely 16 amps.

If you are using a camping card at ACSI sites offering a discount price that includes 4 kw of electricity per day on a 6 amp supply..

Whilst it states that, on ACSI sites in France we have never been restricted to that and occasionally the supply has been 10 amps.

We’ve been touring for a month, this year, similarly in previous years in NE France, Champagne, Burgundy, Provence, Loire, Perigord, Toulouse and Brittany. Never ever seen a meter. Far and away the most common supply available has been 10 amps, which is quite sufficient for us with a little care. Things are certainly more expensive this year, but this is our chosen holiday so we pay up and enjoy.

We have been camping in France since the early 70's but I have never come across metered electricity.  We have occasionally been offered the choice of just 6 amp or the option to pay a bit extra for 10 amp. More recently 16 amp has been available on some site but it is still not common.
