Door repair needed in East France

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm currently stopped in Châlons-en-Champagne (just past Reims) and travelling  South to pont de Bourgogne Saint- Marcel (down past Dijon and Beaune) tomorrow (Tues 17th). My caravan door is not shutting, the hinges appear to have worn out and it just keeps slipping down. I've got by so far through lifting it back up and tightening the screws but it's getting worse fast and I'm worried it will just collapse! Do any experienced travellers know of a good mobile mechanic in this area of France, or a workshop that I might pass on route? Many thanks

I have reported the Opening Post in order to prompt a response. Hopefully we will receive assurances that future first posts will be dealt with more speedily, at least urgent ones.

I don't think Mods have anything to do with approving posts. This is the remit of Rowenna and other members of staff.

I've noticed several first posts (replying to one in Parts & Accessories myself today) lately, all of which are several weeks old.

Maybe a Mod could raise the issue with Ro and ask her to take steps to address the issue.

Yes that is the case, posts requiring approval can only be actioned by admin although mods can see the posts. If we notice them, perhaps we didn't see this particular post so apologies to the OP, we would normally highlight them to admin and afterwards they are usually approved very quickly.

Our sincere apologies for the delay in this going live. We've had some technical issues with the system which has delayed some posts going live. This should have been posted immediately. We are investigating further to ensure there are no delays in the future.

We are, perhaps, fortunate in having worked in technical areas before retirement. And that experience has paid off time and again. I think that maybe self help might have been called for. We carry a cordless drill for various tasks, and a small pack of drills in our toolkit. Maybe drilling a hole just underneath the slipping hinge and screwing in a self tapping screw would have blocked downward movement. Given a few more tools, drilling and countersinking the hinge, then tapping a thread to take an additional set screw would provide a permanent fix. Faults on leisure vehicles can be many and varied, which justifies the extra weight that a selection of tools imposes. If you ask for help there’s a good chance that a nearby camper can be found to assist.
