Club Motoring Insurance

I have just spent an awful lot of time trying to arrange extended insurance cover for my trip to Spain.

I was with Admiral who provide 90 days European cover under their motoring policy. They would not extend beyond 90 days. Nor would the AA, M&S or Direct Line. So, I logged onto the Club site to arrange cover through Devitt's. They provided cover up to 180 days and they were a little bit cheaper than Admiral. Terrific.....until today when I received the documents.

I was required to post the no claims form. No problem. They also wanted a renewal letter from my previous insurer. This was not possible as I had to cancel my previous cover. I asked if I could send them all my current documentation but was told that I could not as only a renewal notice would suffice. After being put on hold I was told that I could still buy the policy but it would cost me an additional £200 due to the lack of a renewal letter.

After another 4 hours on the internet I eventually got a great price from Liverpool and Victoria. It was a bit more than Admiral but a heck of a lot cheaper than Devitt's/Caravan Club quote.

I am very very disappointed with the Devitts. Something I will not forget when the 5 C's comes up for renewal and if I hadn't already taken out a Red Pennant policy I would be looking elsewhere.

So, if you are traveling abroad for more then 90 days beware....
