I think this Club still owns and runs the Alan Rogers company - though it gets little publicity. Anyway there’s an updated report on line from an Alan Rogers inspector which sounds trustworthy to me.

We were there ten years ago under the old regime and didn’t find anything to complain about even then - some more precious, Club site only members might have been distressed, but to us it was just a busy, worn out, overcrowded, city centre, cheap as chips, shabby, Belgian campsite. We never expected much of Belgian campsites.

But it’s been privatised and the prices have rocketed upwards so there might have been one or two improvements, but I wouldn’t expect many. Just trust the Alan Rogers report because Antwerp is a wonderful city to visit  and much more interesting than  Bruges and  Ghent, and the campsite will be tolerable enough.

We once found a really disreputable Belgian site -  at Wezembeek on the far side of Brussels. It said at the time in the Club book that it was part of the Royal Belgian Caravan Club - and we fell for the word Royal. However we could see when we got there that their King rarely went there.  Simple was a polite description - and I think it was the only time I have washed and shaved in a wooden garden shed.

Google tells me it’s still around, but has sensibly dropped the word Royal. A wise move. Apparently a group of volunteers now run it and seem to have taken it in hand . From the photos on line it has changed enormously, but Alan Rogers is silent. So dare you try that one too?

I blame that Rowena for kidding us about the Wezembeek site - she was the editor of the Club’s overseas guide at the time .

Hi Ro…are you there?
