Camping Gottardo Switzerland

Has anybody stayed at this site? We are thinking of travelling from Strasbourg through Switzerland (Basle) to Locarno and this would be the right distance for an overnight stop. Previously we have used Camping Bosco near Bellinzona which is fine but is mainly suited to long term stays and, of course, is outrageously expensive. There are few convenient night halts on this route.

We would be arriving mid to late afternoon around the third week of August so hopefully it wouldn’t be full.

If it's just fort an overnight, why not an aire?

Have never used an Aire as we like to arrive mid afternoon and enjoy the camp surroundings. Do they have them in Switzerland? Sites are about 45 Euros so I imagine Aires could be popular.

The campsite reviews say it has a restaurant, bar, terrace, swimming pool, bread and pastry bakery, laundry, modern showers, and good wi fi. If I were going that way I ‘d be there .

Yes it sounds good and close to the motorway. Worth a try.

Not as sophisticated as Camping Bosco but if it's just for a night halt, this aire (sosta camper) is less than half the price and it's closer to the town centre.

Thanks for that. I think I saw it when searching. Not the kind of place I would choose to stay but useful in an emergency.

It's one of our favourite sites when travelling down to Italy. Don't take the first exit to Faido south of the tunnel, take the second and the site is less than half a mile back towards the village of Faido on the RHS.

When you turn into the site pull in to the left and go to reception. Don't be tempted to keep going past the buildings, it gets very narrow.

There's an amazing bakery and a bar, restaurant and swimming pool. The language of the staff is Italian but they speak good English.

There are few Aires in Switzerland but the price of this site is not excessive compared to most of Switzerland. Despite being reasonably close to the motorway it's very quiet, the motorway being much lower in the valley. Enjoy.

Many thanks. Just what I was looking for. Not sure why we ever bothered with Bosco.

Used here as stop over May 2017. Pleasant site nice bar. Surrounded by mountains cost 36 Swiss francs then.
