Are you getting the 'hump' with France ?

Having just returned from a two week trip to Upper and Lower Normandy I was struck by the increased number of "safety" humps in the road, especially at pedestrian crossings.

I like to travel off motorway as France is a great country and has beautiful, historic towns, but I've never spent so much time scanning the road ahead for the dreaded speed humps.  Hardly saw anything of the scenery !

It seems to me that the locals still zip through the towns in their soft suspension cars but it felt like we were going over fallen trees every few hundred yards, even at 20kph !!

Anyone else feel the same ?
