Trying CL's again

A few years since we visited the rather excellent Passage Farm, and after seeing some of the costs for 18 and 19 we are looking at CL's again.

We've booked to go to Wortley Hall this Christmas and are looking at 1 on the outskirts of Shaftsbury and Combe Martin for 2019.  Funnily enough the sites I'm now finding eye watering in terms of case are the CAMC one's.  We had booked for Cirencester this Christmas and New Year and Broadway next year (serviced and unless I'm mis-reading my bookings 2 weeks plus 1 day was coming to circa £450)

Use them most of the time now and also the C&CC 3/5 day meets and Temporary Holiday Sites, big savings, more outings.

We've been away over 200 nights so far this year, mainly on CLs, and our cost per night is averaging out at about £12:50 pn, a huge amount less than it would be if we'd used CC sites all the time.

The prices are racked up on Club Sites for Christmas week, much as they are for any other holiday let. Sad really, the prices plummet before and after on most sites. We use Club Sites in Winter, some are a bargain, better value than some CLs, but there’s only a select few we use in Summer. If you are away a lot, as Nellie says, it’s better to shop around. We are currently on a gorgeous CL. HS, free WiFi, loos and a shower all for £12 per night. It has a swimming pool and spa for a token payment as well! And we are looking at the Cornish coast, not a row of other vans!

I agree that CLs are great value and I've yet to find one I didn't like.

Mind you, I also have to say, looking at the OP, that £30 a night over Christmas/New Year strikes me as pretty reasonable for a full facility club site and a darned site less than many of the alternatives! smile

Looking back through our touring log I see that we haven't stayed on a CMC site since May 2017, primarily because of the high cost. We generally search for a CL or CS site in the areas we wish to visit.

If I toured more in this Country rather than over there I would probably use them and CSs and THSs  more than currently but if I intend to stay on one site for any length of time, I am not averse to paying a ful fat fee even though some sites, both here and over there, can be eye wateringly expensive in peak season.

Alan

An average of £27 a night seems pretty good value to me over the Christmas period. Even £30 a night mentioned by the OP is not that bad. On those rates the Club don't seem to be pushing prices higher than peak summer season. I have only achieved 25% of Nellie's extraordinary number of nights this year. I suppose if I was spending anywhere near that number of nights away each year it might focus the mind on value a bit more than it does for me currently. If I was ever getting to the point where I was finding site fees too much I think that would be the time that I started to think about giving up. I do sometimes look at CL's if their location suits my needs but on a couple of times I have tried to book said CL's they have always been full!

Sorry I should have given a better breakdown than I did.

11 Nights @ Cirencester - Christmas/New Year  - £313.50 (£28.50)

4 Nights @Broadway May 2019 - £144.40 (£36.10 p/night serviced).

Cirencester at Christmas is on a par for what we are paying in 2019 for a fully serviced pitch on Adults Only sites

Broadway based on the above obviously quite a bit more, hence my post about starting to look at CL's.

The Christmas week is about £33 a night David. I could save £75 by using Willowbank site (about £5 a night cheaper) but prefer the CC site at Southport
