No electric hook up and freezing cold

Is it just me or would you also be annoyed if you booked a site that says hook up available and arrived to find they only have enough for 3 units and you have no power, small children and it's 3  degrees overnight?  Oh, and they try to charge you more than their web page says.

We've never used the gas before, we're new to caravaining, we couldn't get it to work, and at 10 at night with little ones it was hard work, I also didn't want to leave  gas heating on as I don't know when it was last serviced, to big a risk. I will be leaving a review on the site and it will be a very honest one.

Sounds like a bad first experience for you fairy, a real shame. Top tip from me, if you intend using CLs, is to think of a few questions to ask owners before you book, checking out things that will be important to you. Electronic booking is fine, but only really if you know the site well, and you can also get some idea of layout, locations by using Google Earth.

Dont let it put you off CLs, they are all very different, we using them all year round and there are some very nice ones. If you can learn to use gas heating, it will help if you are away and power trips for some reason. All the best.

Surely with small kids or even just yourself you would have ensured the van was safe to use and tow before use???

ok, I can....

a) understand your disappointment with the site and would have taken it up with the owners...

b) understand your reluctance with the gas if you are inexperienced and haven't really got the caravan sorted fully yet....

however, as back up, you really need to get the gas heating and hot water sorted and fully understand how to use it.....it's perfectly fine to use overnight...

things happen.....EHU bollards can trip or fail....fuses can blow, electric heating elements can fail....any of these is quickly sorted by switching to gas heating....and/or cooking...

good luck with future trips...many folk choose not to bother with EHU as gas and 12v provides another alternative....

Come on, LF! Still no review so we'll  just have to hope it's not one of the 2 CLs we've got booked for next month! undecided
