Impossible search for CLs

We have just spent a very frustrating hour trying to find a CL on our route from Cannock Chase to Wrexham. The numbers really don't show the true position, the listings in the book don't seem to be in any particular order - what on earth have they done to a book we have used for the last 39 plus year. Listings might say Whitchurch but not how near or whether south, west etc.  the map has so many numbers on CLs in some areas that you can't see the roads.

I just hope I haven't recycled our old book and can go back to using that!!  I cannot believe that a simple search for a site near a village with plenty of walking opportunity is so difficult to find now!!!

forgot to add, if you use the online search on here there are no numbers so then you have to try to find the place on the map and in the directory!!
